Rhett, Lord of Umbar

Herein lies the tales and conquest of Berdir, Paladin of Ilúvatar .

First account of Rhett

Rhett was born in July in the last year of the Third Age to Amrakr Lord of Umbar. During the War of The Ring, the Corsairs of Umbar were led by both Amrakr and his brother Hadnan, in which Amrakr brother would perish during the War and despite Amrakr making his way back to Umbar, he slowly succumb to his wounds days after the coronation of King Elessar. Amrakr had no true born sons, only a bastard by the name of Rhett, who was beloved by many of the inhabitants of Umbar. His mother was but a “tavern-wench” who developed a strong distaste towards men for they had been cruel to her in the fulfillment of her duties, she would go on to pass this distaste along with others to her son Rhett. He did not openly project his disdain among those in Umbar who disagreed with him, yet his racist tendencies were known to all. These ideals were not shared throughout Umbar such as his distaste of the Elves, and especially his distaste of most Men.

When Rhett's father had passed, his cousin's, Qashas and Qaraath's claim to the rule of Umbar was stronger than his and Qaraath, being the firstborn son of Hadnan had the support of many in Umbar. Qaraath was then named the Lord of Umbar and even though Rhett was not liked by his cousin, Qaraath recognized his skill as a fighter and thus appointed Rhett to command the soldiers of Umbar. Qaraath along with the counsel of his brother Qasha refused to surrender to the new King Elessar and thus the battle for Umbar began. Rhett, being concerned for the safety and well being of the people of Umbar and his soldiers, took it upon himself to go against his cousin's orders. Rhett believing Qashas and Qaraath were blind and could not see that it was futile to fight against the power of the Reunited Kingdom, took it upon himself to defend his people and while his cousins slept, Rhett snuck into the rooms of Qaraath and Qashas and slit their throats.

The people of Umbar in an uproar at the decision of their Lord would soon after turn to Rhett for guidance once they had discovered the nobles of Umbar had killed themselves the night before. While some were eager and ready to fight, most, including Rhett, did not want further conflict with the men of the west. Rhett, being the new lord of the people, decided it would be best for Umbar to surrender the city and open the gates to King Elessar. The King was pleased with the decision of Rhett and once learning of the death of the Lord of Umbar and his brother, would then declare victory against Umbar. After this revelation, Rhett decided to agree to the surrender of the lands of Umbar, in exchange that Umbar would join the Reunited Kingdom again as a province of the kingdom, with Rhett as the new Lord of Umbar. The two would then go to the town square where Rhett would swear fealty and pledge him and his line to the service of the line of King Elessar, swearing that after death, his sons would continue to serve King Elessar and his descendants.
